Filoli House

Had a chance to visit the Filoli House in Woodside, CA this month to do some spring flowers photography.  It has been many years since I visited that house and the landscaping was beautiful so I guess it was the memory that the price of admission was the drawback for returning more frequently but it is a must see at least once in a lifetime.

In addition to the landscaping I got to walk through the mansion on a self-guided tour this time.  One of the docents told me there were 50 rooms in that house.  If you would some history on the Filoli House, here’s a Wikipedia link:  Filoli

But let me post a few doors of the mansion to get this post justified for Norm Frampton’s Thursday Doors website blog.

This is the entrance door.

A closer view of that entrance door when it was opened.

French doors?

I think I’ll post more doors in future Thursday Doors blogs in case I don’t get a chance to do some planned doorscurions in the near future.

Oh, before I forget, here are a couple of floral shots.

Thank you for visiting my post and thanks again to Norm 2.0 for his creation of the Thursday Doors website that gives us bloggers an outlet to let our thoughts be put on paper or in this case, web space.  For more posts and photos of doors by others please go to: Thursday Doors.

  1. How interesting! I have never heard of this house before, and this week there are two Thursday Doors post from it. Find the other one in the comments under Norm’s post. 😉 Certainly seems a most fascinating place.

  2. I’ve never heard of this place before but it certainly looks to be worth a visit. I haven’t looked at the admission cost, though. 🙂 It’s a bit out of the way for me if visiting our daughter and husband in Pasadena, though.

  3. What a gorgeous estate Gordon! Love the colors, and the shadows – the mood reigning over this property you photographed. Superb job!
Saw your like a few weeks ago, but my blog had taken a back seat for some weeks – sorry. A week before that, Jacob began to have male problems. We did not understand the full extent of it then, but he has been walking with a catheter for 3 weeks, emergency rooms, tests, more tests, and had surgery on Monday in San Andreas, an hour away – it’s looking a lot better, but “can’t do anything for a month.” Have to say the Mark Twain center may be a small hospital, but they gave him the royal treatment. The catheter is still not out, but eventually will, once it’s safe for his kidneys.

  4. Hi Jesh, sorry to learn about Jacob’s illness and hope he is on the road to a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the comments; Filoli is a beautiful place and I’m sure you would enjoy spending a day there with your easel and paints just painting the landscape.

I’m behind in blogging these days; just returned on Wednesday evening after a few days in southern CA chasing the super bloom; it was an awesome sight!

Wishing you and the family well and better days ahead.
